THE ADMISSION PROCESS AT ST. MATTHEW’S


    Applicants for Pre-School and Pre-Kindergarten
  • Parents contact the School office for an admission packet.
  • Parents arrange for a campus tour and/ or Open House visit.
  • Students must be potty trained; Pre-School students must be 3 years of age by September 30th and Pre-Kindergarten students must be at least 4 years of age by September 30th of the entrance year.
  • Pre-School & Pre-Kinderegarten class sizes are limited and once classes are filled, applicants are placed on a waiting list in the order that registration fees are received. The applicant is admitted on a conditional basis. If at any time, in the opinion of the School, enrollment of the student shall be deemed detrimental to the student’s health or progress or to other students, he or she may be dismissed.
    Applicants for Kindergarten and grades one, two and three
  • Kindergarten applicants must be at least 5 years of age by September 30th of the entrance year.
  • Call the School office to request an enrollment packet and arrange for a campus tour and/ or Open House visit.
  • Return completed application and non-refundable $100.00 application fee to the School office.
  • Submit the applicant’s prior school transcripts to the School office (when applicable).
  • SMES will send teacher recommendations forms to the student’s current school and request official school transcripts.
  • The School office will arrange testing dates when applicable.
  • Kindergarten applicants are administered the Scholastic Kindergarten Readiness Test.
  • First Grade applicants are administered a First Grade Scholastic Readiness Test.
  • Applicants for grades 2-3 are given portions of the IOWA Test of Basic Skills if current standardized test scores (Stanford Achievement, IOWA Test of Basic Skills, California Test of Basic Skills or Educational Record Bureau) are not available.
  • Letters communicating admission decisions and registration materials are mailed by the School office.
