Students in Pre-School through seventh grade are required to wear uniforms. Uniforms must be purchased from Jake’s, School Time, or Young Fashions. By enrolling in SMES, students and parents agree to accept and comply with the school’s uniform policy. Parents are advised to check with the Administration before purchasing any items that do not conform exactly with the written policy.
The Parent Association collects previously worn uniforms and re-sells them for $5.00 per piece. Parents may purchase these uniforms during school hours.
St. Matthew’s permits families to be absent from school without penalty for family trips. The Head of School must be informed in writing, and teachers must be contacted in advance of the absence. Assignments will be arranged with the teacher upon the return to school.
On the weekend before school starts, the Parent Association hosts our annual Back to School Ice Cream Social. Families are invited to come and meet the faculty and staff, see old friends and meet new SMES families. The school handbook, carpool signs and student information packets are given out at this event. Students get to meet their teacher and other classmates as well as see their classroom. This event welcomes everyone back to school and helps our new students to feel at home on the first day of school.
Applicants seeking admission to St. Matthew’s Episcopal School for the first time should call the School Office to be placed on the inquiry list prior to the start of the school year for which application is being made. Enrollment brochures and applications are available beginning January 29 and are due back along with the non-refundable application fee on February 22 or as soon as possible thereafter. Applicants are considered according to completeness of required documents and date received. Criteria for acceptance include academic qualifications, readiness of the applicant and special attention given to the overall composition of the class.
Parents are encouraged to attend our Open House in February and/or tour our campus to see the students and teachers “in action”. New student applicants are welcome to spend a day with us. Please contact the school office to schedule a visit.
The Student Record Release Authorization Form must be signed in order for us to obtain copies of the applicant’s report card and standardized test scores from their current school.
The $100.00 application fee must accompany the completed Admission Application and any records from previous schools attended. Once all records are received from the current school, the application will be reviewed by the School’s Admission Committee. Parents will be notified by phone or mail of the Admission Committee’s decision.
